Melvin and Betty Kane have been married for 61 years. Pruitt Health Care Facility, where they now live, allows the couple to stay in a room together.
“Friends introduced us a long time ago,” said Melvin. “We’ve been together ever since.”
Soon after their marriage, Melvin went into the Navy and the two started a family. They had two boys, but sadly lost one of their sons. In their 61 years together, they have been through good times and bad, but they are joyful and grateful to be with one another. They keep memories alive with pictures of their two sons, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren scattered around them.
“They are an amazing couple,” said Shontay Washington, a Pruitt employee. “It’s wonderful to see a couple like this who have been married for such a long time.”
