A 45-year-old Colleton County man is now charged with murder following a Feb. 5 shooting at a Walterboro-area residence.

Keith Simmons, 45, of Colleton County, is charged with murder. As of press deadline, he was being held at the Colleton County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Details surrounding the case are limited, as law enforcement officials are still investigating the deadly shooting. According to Shalane Lowes, spokeswoman for the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies were originally called to the Sidneys Highway residence at about 11:30 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found the victim: the man had been shot at least once, she said, in a written statement.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Colleton County Coroner, Richard Harvey.

According to Harvey, the victim is identified as 41-year-old Ronald Dobson 41, of Colleton County.

An autopsy was performed on Dobson on Monday.

In addition to the local sheriff’s office, officers from the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are also investigating the crime.
