The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, May 17th in the 200 block of King Street in Walterboro. Deputies responded to reports of a drive-by shooting and discovered one adult male deceased in the backyard of the residence. Sheriff’s Deputies secured the scene so that Colleton County Firefighter Paramedics could treat the injured man who presented no signs of life. The Coroner’s Office was contacted and responded to the scene. Paramedics treated two other adults with different injuries at the scene but did not require ambulance transportation to the hospital. Preliminary findings indicate that the incident was a targeted attack involving multiple individuals exchanging gunfire. Detectives have identified persons of interest and are currently processing evidence and conducting interviews. The Sheriff’s Office stated in its press release, “The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting our community and takes this level of violence very seriously.
