Seasons Change, but Jesus Christ is the Same

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8 ESV).

opefully, all of you enjoyed a beautiful weekend and Resurrection Sunday, celebrating the gift of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the love of family and friends. Time waits on no one, so every time that we can celebrate Christ, family, and friends, we need to do just that.  We never know what tomorrow may bring, so enjoy each day as if it were your last.  Praise and thank God Almighty in season and out of season.

Seasons come and go, and they bring about changes.  The four seasons, winter, spring, summer, and fall, mark the passing of a year.  They can vary significantly in characteristics, and can prompt changes in the world around them, depending upon location.  The weather is different during each season.  As the weather changes, plants change, also, and animals change their behavior to suit the weather. The seasons can bring a wide variety to the year for those locations that experience them in full.  Each season brings with it its own potential dangers, but also its own particular brand of beauty (livescience.com).

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (ESV) states, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”  Further, Acts 1:7 (ESV) confirms, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.”  Therefore, every change of season should remind us of His sovereign promises, His creative power, and His timetable.  However, aren’t you glad that even though the seasons change, Jesus Christ will never change?  The Word clearly confirms this in Hebrews 13:8 (ESV): Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.  Lord, have mercy on us, please.  If Jesus were to change as the seasons and man change, where would we be?  What would we do?

When world disasters and tragedies strike such as 9/11, earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, tsunamis, school shootings, the treasonous attack on the United States’ seat of democracy, serial killings, and the pandemic, just to name a few, some ask the question: Where was Jesus Christ when all of this happened?  The answer: Jesus Christ was the same place that he was yesterday, today, and will be forever!  Christ, the Lord is “…seated at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2 ESV).  Sometimes, the Lord will allow things to happen to get our attention.  God wants our worship and praise, and He has the power to get it however He chooses.  When these situations happen, it is not that God doesn’t love us, for He truly does.  He said in His Word, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (II Chronicles 7:14 ESV).  Thank, You God, that You made the seasons to change and to come and go, but Your Son remains the same, no matter the season!

Not only do we experience the changes of the four seasons of the year, but we also experience emotional and spiritual seasons in our lives, that bring about good and not-so-good changes.  If we are not deeply grounded and rooted in Jesus Christ, the changes will overtake us.  When these changes descend upon our lives, we have to look to Jesus for the answer, because He is “…the author and finisher of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:2 KJV).  Jesus has always been there for us, and all we have to do is trust in Him, for he will never change.  Again, aren’t you glad?
