On Friday, September 20, 2024, the Colleton County School Board of Trustees spent the day touring the schools in the district. The board was divided into two teams that were led by Superintendent Jessica Williams and Assistant Superintendent of Operational Management Dr. Martin Wright. As the board toured each school, the administrators showcased the many wonderful things happening at each school. Each tour began with a brief presentation by the building level principal of the school’s academic and school climate goals as well as information on the instructional programs offered to students. Classrooms were then visited.
Black Street Early Childhood Center Principal Tiffany Pearson was very proud of her faculty and her staff as she led the board around to see the teachers in action. When the board visited Bells Elementary; they had the opportunity to watch Ms. Diamond Berry in action at the Bells “Store”. It was great seeing the students actively “shopping” after their hard work. Principal Angel Ferguson discussed the PBIS initiative at Bells Elementary. At Hendersonville Elementary, the board was greeted by the newly elected President of the Student Council & member of the Safety Patrol. Principal Kyle Smalls was very happy to showcase his campus and wonderful staff. Mr. Smalls led the board into several classes and made sure that they visited the innovative STEM Lab. At Forest Hills Elementary, Principal Joe Guarino proudly walked the board members to various classes. During the visit to Cottageville Elementary, the board was met by Principal Tasheena Allen who graciously gave a tour of the wonderful facility located on Pierce Road. Northside Elementary Principal Lauren Behie also proudly showed off her faculty, staff and students. Eddie Peeples, Principal of Colleton County Middle School led board members on a tour of several classrooms to include the STEM Lab, Math Lab and Reading Lab.
At the conclusion of the Tour of Schools, the board and administrative team were treated to a delicious meal prepared by Chef LaShawn Williams and his Culinary Arts students. Mr. Andy Kubik led the board on a tour of the building, showcasing the hands-on opportunities students have as they work towards earning a Completer Certificate. Superintendent Williams led the team in a protocol to reflect on the school visits and discussed areas of strength and opportunities for growth.
