School Board candidate filing begins July 20

Colleton County School Board seats 1, 3, 5 and 7 are up for election in November.
Filing for candidates seeking School Board seats in the November 3 General Election opens at noon on Monday July 20 and closes at noon on Monday Aug. 3.
Currently, those seats are held by Charles Murdaugh, District 1; Sharon Witkin, District 3; Mary Jones, District 5; and Patricia Simmons, District 7.
The board of trustees of the Colleton County School District consists of seven members who are elected in nonpartisan elections. One member of the board must be a resident of, and elected from, each of the seven defined single-member election districts. The seven members are elected for terms of office of four years each. District 1, 3, 5 and 7 serve during the same four- year term.

• Weekdays: 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Filing Forms and Fees:
• The Nonpartisan Statement of Intention of Candidacy Form is available under the “Candidate” tab at https://www.scvotes.gov and at the county elections office.
 Filing fees are paid at the time of filing. The filing fee is $20. Checks should be made payable to Colleton County Election Commission.

State Ethics Filing:
• Candidates are required to file a Statement of Economic Interests and a Campaign Disclosure online with the State Ethics Commission at https://ethics.sc.gov.
Failure to file these documents may result in a candidate fine but will not disqualify a candidate from the election. Contact the State Ethics Commission for more information.
