With every approaching season, hunters anxiously await the arrival of their game tags prior to opening day.

Hunting groups across Facebook have been rife with complaints about missing deer tags leading up to opening day on the 15th. Hunters that had not received their tags by that day all had one question-what do we do?

SCDNR recently apologized for the delay in tag delivery on the homepage of the department’s website. It was noted that tags began to go out on July 25th, but a temporary solution is available for those still waiting for their arrival.

Hunters who have not yet received deer tags can visit https://www2.dnr.sc.gov/customerprivilegesportal to access temporary tags. SCDNR will honor these tags, which can be printed at home, until the licensed hunter has received their permanent tags. Temporary tags are to be cut out and attached to harvested deer with tape.

When requesting and downloading temporary tags, the hunter’s SCDNR customer number, social security number, or driver’s license number will be required for access.

SCDNR asks that hunters be patient as they work to ensure that each hunter receives their proper tags. Offering temporary tags ensures that every hunter who has purchased a hunting license can make it to the woods as quickly as possible.

It’s required that harvested deer be tagged before being moved from the kill site. The tag should remain on the deer until it has been checked in at a processor or quartered during field dressing/cleaning at home.
