Colleton Prep Academy sophomore Josh Sanders (120) captured third place in the 2022 SCISA Individual State Wrestling Championship held on February 12 at the Sumter County Civic Center. Sanders defeated Jovani Rodriquez from Thomas Heyward Academy in the 120-lb weight class.
Twelve SCISA schools competed in the event where Ben Lippen earned an overall first place finish with 200.5 total points. Hammond School finished in second place with 196.5 points, followed by Heathwood Episcopal School with 162 points. Other overall finishes included 4 – Cardinal Newman (144); 5 – Greenwood Christian (104); 6 – John Paul II (50); 7 – Augusta Christian School (39); 8 – Thomas Heyward Academy (19); 9 – Dillion Christian (18), Pinewood Prep (18), and Porter Gaud School (18); 12 – Colleton Prep (17).
“Sanders came out on top against a tough Thomas Heyward opponent in the consolation finals to earn the third-place finish,” said Coach Jim Castle. “Our team was young this season, but all of our wrestlers will be back next year.”
