Salk baseball preparing for Region X Tourney

Although the regular season concluded last week, Salkehatchie Baseball added two double-headers last week in preparation for competition in the NJCAA Division I Region X Tournament set to begin Friday, May 6. Salkehatchie, seeded in the No. 7 spot, will face No. 2 seed, USC Sumter at 4:30 p.m. in the post-season tournament. The Indians went 5-1 against USC Sumter during the regular season. Salkehatchie finished the regular season 4-42 overall and 2-22 in Region X.

In game one of a double header against Florence Darlington Technical College, played on April 27, the Indians fell 16-5. Juan Rodriguez earned the start, lasting two innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out three and walking none. Drew Thomas, Caleb Shealy, and Michael Dorso each contributed in relief for USC Salkehatchie. Jalen Morris went 2-3 on the day to lead Salkehatchie at the plate.

Florence Darlington earned an 11-1 win in game two of the series highlighted by a grand slam from Brayden Davidson in the third inning. Mack Ritter started on the mound for Salkehatchie and lasted 2.0 innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits, striking out none and issuing no walks. Tyler Hogan and Reese Benson contributed in relief. Ben O’Brien, Rushton Bowles, and Jalen Morris had a hit each for Salkehatchie.

Salkehatchie hosted USC Sumter on April 30 and fell 11-0 in game one of the doubleheader.

Ahmad Tucker started the game and allowed five hits and four runs over two innings, walking one. Nolan McGonigle and Juan Rodriguez entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one inning, respectively. Elijah Friend and Cameron Godbee each collected for the Indians.

In game two of the double-header, Salkehatchie watched the game slip away early in a 14-3 loss to the Fire Ants. Jack Hedges was on the pitcher’s mound for the Indians, lasting two innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out three and walking one. Caleb Shealy, Michael Love, and Tyler Hogan each contributed in relief. Colby Routh, Jason Wilson, Casey Baker, and Godbee each collected one hit in the game.
