Salk Baseball finishes regular season

The Salkehatchie Baseball team completed their regular season last weekend going 1-3 in a four-game series versus USC Sumter. The Indians earned a 1-0 win in game two and fell (5-2, 9-5, and 10-0) in the remainder of the series. Salkehatchie finished the regular season 4-42 overall and 2-22 in Region X.

In game one against USC Sumter played Saturday, April 23, the Indians fell behind early and could not recover despite out-hitting Sumter five to four in the three-run loss. Ahmad Tucker started the game for Salkehatchie, surrendering five runs on four hits over six innings, striking out three. Colby Routh recorded multiple hits for the Indians including a homerun in the seventh inning. Ben O’Brien recorded multiple hits in the game.

Kenny Miller earned the win for Salkehatchie in game, throwing a complete game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out two. The Indians scored in the second inning on an error. Colby Routh, Gabe White, and Luis Quiñones each collected a hit.

In Sunday’s early game Jack Hedges earned the start, lasting four innings, allowing six hits and seven runs while striking out four. Nolan McGonigle threw two innings of relief. Rushton Bowles went 2-4 at the plate with a solo homerun in the first inning. The Indians scored three runs in the seventh with contributions from Evan Grant, Bowles, and Luis Quiñones, who each had RBIs.

In game four of the series, the Indians were shutout 10-0. Nate Kiser earned the start, surrendering five runs on three hits over two innings, striking out one. Donovan Parker and Michael Love entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one-third of an inning respectively. Colby Routh went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Salkehatchie.

Salkehatchie will enter the post-season Region X Tournament beginning May 7 seeded in last place.
