Salk Baseball drops Region X games

The Salkehatchie Indian Baseball team dropped to 2-36 overall and 0-14 in Region X after conferences losses to USC Union (5-0, 11-1, 13-3, 8-4) and Louisburg College (17-3, 14-4, 8-3, 6-1).

In a four-game double header weekend series against USC Union held April 2-3, the Indians fell 5-0 in game one. Ahmad Tucker was on the mound for USC Salkehatchie and allowed five hits and five runs over four innings. Drew Thomas and Nate Kiser entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings, respectively. Colby Routh, Jason Wilson, and Connor Dugan each collected one hit to lead the Indians.

Saturday’s second game saw the Indians lose 11-1 after falling behind early.

Heston Thompson earned the start and lasted one and one-third innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits, issuing three walks, and striking out one. Drew Thomas and Nate Kiser provided relief. Gavin Phillips went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead USC Salkehatchie at the plate.

Game one of Sunday’s double header proved to be more of the same as the Indians fell 13-3. Jack Hedges started on the hill and allowed six hits and five runs over two innings, striking out five. Mack Ritter, Donovan Parker, and Michael Dorso each contributed in relief for the Indians. Jason Wilson, Cameron Godbee, and Evan Grant had a hit each for Salkehatchie.

In the final game of the series, the Indians bats came alive, but it would not be enough as they fell 20-7. Kenny Miller started the game for USC Salkehatchie and allowed six hits and seven runs over two and a third innings, walking none. Tyler Hogan, Gannon Honea, Donovan Parker, and Mack Ritter entered the game as relief, throwing two and a third innings, one inning, two-thirds of an inning, and two-thirds of an inning, respectively. Salkehatchie collected ten hits, including a home run by Rashard Brown in the fifth inning. Gabe White (3-5) and Jard Luis Rodriguez had multiple hits for Salkehatchie.

Against Louisburg College Saturday April 9, the Indians fell 17-3 in game one after falling behind early. Ahmad Tucker took the loss for Salkehatchie, lasting five innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out two. Juan Rodriguez threw one inning in relief. Colby Routh, Rushton Bowles, Elijah Friend, and Eric Green each collected one hit for the Indians.

In the second game of the double header Saturday, the Indians fell 14-4. Jack Hedges toed the rubber for USC Salkehatchie, going two innings, allowing seven runs on five hits, and striking out three. Michael Love and Nolan McGonigle entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and two innings, respectively. The Indians had four hits in the game with Gabe White and Gavin Phillips recording multiples.

Sunday’s first game saw the Indians fall 8-3. Heston Thompson was on the hill for Salkehatchie and lasted two innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out two and walking one. Nate Kiser threw five innings out of the bullpen. The Indians recorded nine hits with Rushton Bowles going 3-3 at the plate.

Kenny Miller took the loss for Salkehatchie in the final game of the series Sunday afternoon. Miller surrendered six runs on nine hits over six innings, striking out 11. Gannon Honea threw one inning in relief. Caleb Shealy and Evan Grant each collected one hit for the Indians.

Salkehatchie will travel to USC Lancaster on April 15-16 for a four-game series.
