Mr. Ruben Dearl Hill, Jr., affectionaly known to everyone as “Wayne”, 79, of St. George, entered into eternal rest Thursday morning, June 23, 2022 at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston.

Born November 29, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama, he was a son of the late Ruben Dearl Hill, Sr. and Mary Magdalene Perkins Hill.  He served his country faithfully in the United States Army.  Mr. Wayne was a man who had a strong work ethic.  He was a logger for many years for his own business, Hills Logging; bought and sold timber; and lastly worked as a mechanic at the bus shop for the Dorchester County School District.  Although he loved his other jobs, the job he loved the most was being a loyal and loving husband, father, son, Paw Paw, brother and uncle.  He loved to take care of his family, whatever the need may be, and he enjoyed having everyone together.   He was an avid kitchen table storyteller.  He also loved being on his tractor and was an avid Alabama Football fan and golf fan.  Mr. Wayne attended Edisto Pentecostal Holiness Church. 

Surviving are: his loving wife of 60 years, Deborah Jean Durant Hill; children, Tommy Hill (Becky) of Walterboro, Laura Morris (Mike) of Bowman, Lynn Thompson (Raymond) of Ridgeville, and Denny Hill (Crystal) of Gadsden, Alabama; grandchildren, Robbie Morris, Matt Morris, Jeffrey Colton Hill, Aubrey Hill, Megan Grant, Mirissa Thompson, Brent Hill, Blake Hill, Crysten Mintz, Courtney Pruett, and Roman Hill; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Jane Crutchfield of Walterboro; brothers, Dennis Hill of Walterboro, Larry Hill of Walterboro, Bob Hill of Canadys, and Billy Hill of Cottageville; many nieces and nephews; and a best friend that was like a brother, Robert Jerkins of Crosby, Texas.  He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Gregory “Speedy” Hill; and a brother, Donald Hill.

Graveside funeral services were held 5 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, June 26, 2022 at Glendale Memorial Cemetery, Walterboro.
