Dr. Robert Paul Ulmer, 82, of Ruffin, entered into eternal rest Wednesday morning, August 18, 2021 at his residence.

Born April 16, 1939 in Colleton County, he was the son of the late Ben Ulmer and Bridie Breland Ulmer. He served his country in the United States Army.  Dr. Ulmer was a beloved educator having started his teaching career with the Bamberg School District.  He then worked for the Colleton County School District having taught at Walterboro High School and served as Principal at Cottageville Elementary.  He also served as Head Master of Andrew Jackson Academy.   Lastly and until his retirement, he worked in education for the South Carolina Department of Corrections.   He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church at Bells and was a Lay Minister. 

Surviving are: his wife of fifty-one years, Mrs. Maxine Trammell Ulmer; three children, Ashley Ulmer and spouse Susie of Ruffin, Blair Ulmer and spouse Maria of Lexington, and April Aulmer and spouse Lauren of Huntersville, North Carolina; four brothers, Olin Ulmer of Ruffin, Keith Ulmer of Ruffin, Terry Ulmer of Hampton and George Ulmer of Brunson; a sister, Gay Ulmer Nettles of Ruffin; and five grandchildren, Carter Ulmer, Kaleb Ulmer, Noah Ulmer, Banks Aulmer, and Cade Aulmer. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Gary Ulmer and Claire Weeks. 

Funeral services were held 3 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, August 22, 2021 from the graveside at Bethel United Methodist Churchyard, Ruffin. The Reverend Cheri Yates officiated.
