Mr. Robert Dennis Smith, husband of Ellen Sineath Smith, passed away Monday afternoon, July 13, 2020 at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.  He was 78.

 Dennis was born in Savannah, GA April 2, 1942 a son of the late Desmond and Mildred Boykin Smith.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and the South Carolina Army National Guard, and retired after 34 years of service as an employee of GTE Telephone.  Dennis was a member of the Unity Masonic Lodge #55 in Walterboro, where he served as the Tyler, and he was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, where he was a Deacon and member of the "Faith Builders", having constructed countless handicap ramps throughout the area.  Dennis was known for his kind heart, and his giving personality, always willing to use his skills as a handyman to help those in need.    

 In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his daughters:  Lynn  Lea  (Scott), of Groveland, FL, Brenda Renfroe (Jonathan), of Dalton, GA, and Linda Herrington (Jay), of Milton, GA.  There are four grandchildren:  Laurel Anne and Asher Renfroe, and Ethan and Ava Herrington.  Dennis leaves behind his siblings:  Larry Smith (Amelia) of Varnville, Patsy Cooke of Zebulon NC, and Judy Tuten (Tiger) of Ridgeland.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, July 17, 2020 at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, with burial following in the Rice Patch Cemetery in Islandton.  The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 in the church sanctuary.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to "Faith Builders" c/o the First Baptist Church of Walterboro.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements
