Mr. Richard E. Carter Jr. passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020  at his home with his wife and two of his children by his side.  To his friends and family, he was affectionately known as “Buddy”.

Born June 21, 1938 in Walterboro, he was the son of the late Richard E. Carter, Sr. and Ethel Bouknight Carter.  He graduated from Walterboro High School, Class of 1956, and then attended the University of Newberry and Clemson University.  After thirty-five years of service, he retired from SCE&G.  He owned the first Pet shop in Walterboro, The Pet Shop, Caddyshack Driving Range, Caddyshack Nursery, REC Hauling and several other business ventures.  He was a hard worker all of his life, and enjoyed working in his businesses.  He loved playing golf and tending to the plants in his nursery, but more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his four-legged baby, Bentley.

He survived by the love of his life, his wife of fifty-four years, Joyce O’Quinn Carter, and by his children, Richard Christopher Carter of Walterboro, Stephen Whitney Carter of Ladson, and Jennifer Lee Carter Stone, and er husband Michael, whom he considered a son.   He leaves behind his grandchildren: Jesse, Cole, Alex, Alison and Candace as well as many others he considered  grandchildren also.  He is also survived by his brother Don Mike Carter (Janet) of Walterboro. He was predeceased by a granddaughter Madison Louise Rooney.

Funeral services will beheld privately.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
