The Colleton County Rice Festival Committee held a special meeting on March 17 to discuss plans for rescheduling the annual festival, following a decision made on Monday by the City of Walterboro to postpone all upcoming events.

The 45th annual Colleton County Rice Festival will now be held on October 2-3.

Following are details on each event:

The Rice Festival Miss and Master Beauty Pageant will be rescheduled. Tentative date is early August. Official date TBA.

The Taste of Walterboro will be held on Tuesday Sept. 29. Tickets already purchased for this event will remain valid.

Tour de Lowcountry will be held on Saturday Sept. 19. Participants who are currently registered will automatically be moved to the new event date. If current participants are unable accommodate this change, they may choose to transfer their registration to the 2021 event or receive a refund.

The Rice Run 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run will be held on Saturday Oct. 3. Participants who are currently registered will automatically be moved to the new event date. If current participants are unable accommodate this change, they may choose to transfer their registration to the 2021 event or receive a refund.

The Car Show, Parade, Cornhole Tournament and Dog Show will be held on Saturday Oct. 3.

Food, information, sales, arts and craft vendors who have already paid for their spots will be contacted by Rice Festival directors within the next 1-2 weeks.

The pre-order deadline for Rice Festival T-shirts has been extended to August 1. Businesses who have already placed an order will have their shirts delivered in September. Order forms are available for download at RiceFestival.org.

The festival office is located within the Chamber of Commerce, which has been closed to visitors until further notice. Those with questions may call 843-549-1079 or through the festival’s Facebook page. “Please understand that we are receiving a large volume of calls, messages and comments, and we are doing our very best to respond to everyone in a timely manner. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work through the details over the next several weeks,” said president Josh Bell.
