WALTERBORO – Mr. James C. Rhode, Jr., known by all as "Jimmy", age 60 of Walterboro, entered into rest Sunday evening, March 6, 2023, at Pruitt Health in Walterboro.

Born October 8, 1962, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was a son of Mrs. Patricia Harmon Rhode and the late Mr. James C. Rhode, Sr. Jimmy’s life revolved around music and his love for playing the piano and organ were even greater. He studied music at Charleston Southern University when it was known as the Baptist College. He was always eager to play and share his love for music with others. At Christmas time, he was often found playing at the Piggly Wiggly for the shoppers. Everyone loved his playing and was always telling his parents how much they enjoyed shopping while listening to the Christmas music. He served as the resident organist/pianist for several churches in the Lowcountry to include: Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Edisto Baptist Church. He also played for the Children’s Choir at First Baptist and offered private lessons at his home on Mount Carmel Road. He also played for the late D. M. Buckner’s chorus for two years while in high school.

He loved to drive hunt with his dogs, Rascal and Tiger, but he would not shoot the deer.

Jimmy loved to call family and friends on the telephone. He would always pray the Lord’s Prayer before he would hang up. Sometimes he would sing the Lord’s Prayer, when he was able. He loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro. Jimmy possessed a sweet, godly spirit. He loved everyone and people loved him. He suffered with his health but he struggled to stay positive about his situation.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother, Steve C. Rhode as well as nieces and nephews, Bethany Stubbs (Adam), David Derrick Stubbs, Jr. (Erika), Gabriel Mitchell Rhode (Alexis), and Adrianna Marie Rhode; as well as a brother-in-law, David Stubbs. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rhonda Rhode Stubbs.

Funeral services will be conduced a 11 o’clock Friday morning, March 10, 2023, from The First Baptist Church of Walterboro, 124 South Memorial Avenue, Walterboro. The Reverend James W.
