Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home

Mrs. Rhoda Jane Fox MacLean, 72, of Walterboro, went to be with her beloved Lord on Tuesday morning, November 17, 2020.  She peacefully passed away at her country home in Colleton County with her family by her side.

Rhoda Jane is survived by Jack Thomas MacLean, the fifty-eight year love of her life, her sons Richard Thomas MacLean (Holly) of both Charlotte, NC and Sheldon, SC, and Bradley Jack MacLean (Ramona) of Charleston.  She will be greatly missed as “Ga Ga” by five loving grandchildren:  Emma of Washington, DC, Richard “Mac” Jr. of Charlotte, and Rose, Bradley Jr., and Georgia of Charleston.  She is also survived by her sister Jackie Berry (Dick) of Orangeburg, and by her brothers, Bishop Bruce Fox (Idell) and Jasper Fox (Joyce) of Ruffin.  Rhoda was also blessed with many loving nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her dearly.  She was the daughter of the late Jasper Richard Fox and Eunice Ione Frick Fox of Ruffin.

Rhoda and Jack left their hometown in 1964 for a fourteen year adventure in Miami, FL where they made many new friends and started raising their two sons.  The young family returned to Walterboro in 1978 and Jack and Rhoda ran several successful businesses while enjoying being back in the Lowcountry.

Rhoda loved any opportunity to hit the open road or take a trip. It could be as simple as a couple of nights at a state park, or as extensive as visiting Australia or the United Kingdom.  She loved adventure and seeing new sights.  She also loved the open water, creating many fun memories over the years boating with friends and family along the coast.  All holidays from Christmas to St. Patrick’s Day were celebrated with her extensive collection of crafts and decorations for almost every occasion.  Her “country cooking” with dishes like Mac and Cheese and Banana Pudding were legendary.  While she had many interests over the years her family and Faith were always the two most important things in her life.

Rhoda will be interred beside her parents in a private graveside service at the historic Smoak Cemetery in Ruffin.  A public celebration of her life will be held Saturday afternoon, November 21, 2020 at 2:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.  The family will receive friends following the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the MUSC Foundation on behalf of the MUSC Heart and Vascular Center, 18 Bee Street, Charleston, SC 29425, or to the Smoak Historic Cemetery Fund, 2640 Paradise Road, Ruffin, SC 29475.
