Remembering Jesus

Posted

As Resurrection Sunday approaches, our focus should be on Jesus and all that He has done for us. Being overly fixated on Easter bunnies, dyed eggs, new clothes, colorfully matching fingernails, flamboyant hairstyles, food galore, and the like, is not what this holy day is about. At the Last Supper before He went to the cross, Jesus made a special request of us as Christians: “He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, ‘This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me’” (Luke 22:19 NLT). When Jesus went to the cross, He carried the sins of the world on His shoulders. This weight was so heavy that He even said to His Father, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” My God, how He suffered for us, yet some of us don’t see the significance in remembering Him. However, those of us who do must help others to see why they need to join us in this celebration.

Throughout the Bible, Jesus is given countless names, titles, and characteristics that vividly explain why we should always remember Him. I will share a few of them:

Savior-“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11 ESV).

Bright Morning Star-“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star” (Revelation 22:16 ESV).

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God...“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6 ESV).

Rock-“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:4 KJV).

Healer-“And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick” (Matthew 14:14 NKJV).

Lamb of God-“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” (John 1:29 NIV)

Do remember Jesus on Resurrection Sunday and every day, for He is worthy of our remembrance and praise. Always abound in the faith, and never leave home without Him!
