Rehabilitation not Repeat Offenders

The Colleton County Detention Center is taking a meaningful step toward rehabilitation and community reintegration. They have partnered with the Technical College of the Lowcountry to provide a transformative opportunity for carefully selected inmates to earn their Production Technician Certifications. This initiative not only equips them with valuable skills but also empowers them to become productive citizens upon their release.

The Certified Production Technician (CPT) 4.0 certification program is designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate mastery of essential competencies in advanced manufacturing. By successfully completing the certification assessments, these individuals are poised to step directly into roles that support their growth, from entry-level positions to front-line supervisors.

Imagine the impact this can have—not just on the lives of the participants, but also on employers who benefit from a more skilled workforce that enhances productivity and competitiveness. This program is perfect for those with limited or no prior manufacturing knowledge, providing a vital pathway into a high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand industry.

Mary Lee Carns, Vice President for Advancement & Workforce Development comments, “The Technical College of the Lowcountry is committed to providing workforce training opportunities that make a meaningful impact in our community. By extending our training outreach to the Colleton County Detention Center, we aim to equip individuals with the skills they need to re-enter the workforce successfully and contribute to the region’s economic growth.”
