Over the past year, the Walterboro Soccer Club board has been working hard to improve the development of soccer training offered, bringing in the club’s first technical trainer, Coach Roger J. Cova Andrade, to work with in-house soccer athletes with specific practice on building foundation skills.

“As part of the evolution of our in-house program, we are instituting new game formats that are fun, faster and create more touches on the ball for every player,” said Frank Prentiss, WSC director of coaches. “These formats are more closely aligned with countries like Germany and Belgium which traditionally produce world-class players. Our board is fully committed to investing both local and travel plays to help each player reach their potential.”

This year, WSC is putting more emphasis on overall organization and communication. A new TeamSnap communication platform will be used for all UB-12 teams, allowing coaches and board members directly communicate with teams on a regular basis. Parents can also use the app to see the schedule as well as notifications of changes immediately.

There will also be less intimidation for new volunteer coaches and managers through sample development sessions available. Tuesday’s technical training will also focus on primary training to lighten the overall development load.

This year, athletes will get two jerseys instead of one.

“The WSC Board is passionate about forming camaraderie within the club,” Prentiss said. “The club crest and colors form a unique bond for all players in-house and travel alike. Teams will get both a home jersey in the club’s color. Teams will still have community sponsors, but the colors will be unique to the Wildfire Club.

Registration for spring in-house season opens on Jan. 15 and will remain open until Feb. 15.
