The U-16 Caroline Reds went 4-0 to capture the title in the SC Summer State Championship, held June 11-12 at dual locations including the Ace Basin Sports Complex and the Moncks Corner Complex.

In game one against the Beaufort Bombers Saturday June 11, the Reds earned a 12-0 victory. Michael Witkin earned the start and Xavier Oxner closed the game. Later in the day, the Reds earned a 4-2 win over the SC Warhawks. Hunter Gokey started on the hill, before being relieved by Wylan Sheffield and DaVeon Varner.

Against the Dorchester Braves on June 12, the Reds cruised to a 21-3 victory. Sheffield earned the start and Tyler Rodrigues closed the game. Advancing to the championship game, the Reds earned a 6-3 win over the St. Varner, Oxner and Witkin combined for the win.

“Standout hitters over the weekend were JaMauri Mango, Bryce Kinard, Hunter Gokey, and Grayson Martin, who all drove in many runs to secure wins,” said Coach Bill Kinard. “Pitching was strong throughout the weekend with Michael Witkin, Wylan Sheffield, Xavier Oxner, and DaVeon Varner all contributing on the mound. As a whole, the boys played well all weekend and we showed our growth and talent. We only committed two errors across the four games and that is something to be proud of.”

The reds are coached by Jack Drawdy, Keith Jirel, Bill Kinard, and Ricky Caldwell.
