Pound Out Cancer

Posted

September was Childhood Cancer Awareness month and on September 14th we had our 4th Annual Pound out Childhood Cancer benefiting Courageous Kidz.

This event was held at Pastor JaDon Buckner’s Walterboro Christian with over 70 Pound Pros and other people from all over the country who came to raise money for this amazing organization!

I want to give a huge thank you to all the sponsors and donations that we received that came from all over but especially here in Walterboro.

We also had 3 Food Trucks to volunteer to be there as well:  Big Head Ed’s Food Truck, Vernon Steward Shantell Steward’s Food Truck.

This support for an organization like Courageous Kidz is a testimony to all of Colleton County and the Lowcountry.

Pound is a rockout workout using lightly weighted drumsticks called ripstixs to not only have a great workout but it is to bring people together and give back to our community.

A little bit of what Courageous Kidz is about.

Their mission statement is this:

Courageous Kidz, Inc. is a South Carolina 501-3c Non-Profit Charitable Organization.

Our mission is to provide year-round, unforgettable experiences for children with cancer and their families in South Carolina.

We provide much needed respite, mutual support and positive activities free of charge to these wonderful children and their families.

We are more than a pediatric cancer support community for patients and their families. The kids and their families become part of our loving Courageous Kidz family forever.

Our goal is to relieve as much stress as possible from these amazing kids and families so that they can concentrate on helping the child with cancer get well again.  Studies show that stress can have a negative effect on medical outcomes, delay recovery and affect every member of the family in a negative way.  We do everything we can to ensure a positive environment for the child with cancer and the entire family.

This year we honored one of our precious child, Sarah Cole, who passed away this past December. She became blind due to Cancer but she still loved music. Her grandmother asked me if I would teach Sarah Cole Pound. I was honored and she was amazing. She was a beautiful symbol of what never giving up and enjoying life is all about.

This year we made $15,540 for Courageous Kidz.  I am so proud of the place where I live and the people that were here to support this. Also, I could not have done it without Kristen Franzen who is at Pound Pro with me and keeps me grounded and going.

We are already working on next year.
