Please Don’t Attend the Performance!

Posted

Just recently, I read a quote posted on Facebook by one of my high school classmates, Pastor Jalonzo Samuels, “Just because some people are fueled by drama doesn’t mean you have to attend the performance.” Truth be told, this is most accurate! Have you ever dealt with folks who keep drama going? When someone puts out the fire, they fuel it right back up again. Given the chaotic state of our world today, what we need to stir up is the REALTRUTH and give the lost some hope and continue to encourage those who are already in the Word. II Timothy 2:22-25 (ESV) declares, “So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness…” Consequently, when drama invites itself into your path, please don’t attend the performance!

Where there is continuous drama, with no one who will step up to the plate with some common sense and love, there will never be any peace. Most people who fuel drama are unhappy with themselves, jealous, seeking attention, and have probably lived around drama most of their lives. Sometimes, they make up lies just to be a part of the conversation. Sadly, they have experienced little or no peace. We must pray for them. Take note of this anonymously written illustration, “The Farmer and His Sons,” and the moral of it:

“Once a farmer had three grown-up sons who always quarreled among themselves. Their father advised them to live in peace, but it had no effect on them. He was worried about their future. One day the father fell seriously ill and sent for his sons. He asked them to collect a handful of sticks, which they did at once. He tied the sticks into a bundle.

“Now, one by one, he asked them to break the bundle. They tried hard to break it, but none could. At last, the farmer untied the bundle and asked each of them to break each stick. They did so quite easily! Their father said, ‘My dear sons, you could not break the sticks as long as they were tied together, but you broke each single stick quite easily. They were strong in a bundle but became weak when separated from one another. Never forget that united we stand and divided we fall.’ This had a deep effect on the farmers’ sons, so they gave up quarrelling and began to live in peace.” Always abound in the faith, and never leave home without Him!
