Perseid meteor shower to light up night sky

Posted

Courtesy of the Swift-Tuttle Comet, the Perseid meteor shower will be visible until late August. Optimum visibility will peak in mid-August, however, on August 11 and 12. Debris and dust trails left in the wake of a comet is what usually forms a meteor. A meteor shower occurs when the Earth moves through a comet’s debris field.

For maximum visibility it is recommended that you watch without any viewing aids such as telescopes or binoculars, because the meteors move so fast. Also, the darker it is, the more meteors you will see. After midnight go outside, allow your eyes 30 to 45 minutes to adjust to the darkness, lie on your back, and enjoy the show.
