WALTERBORO – Mrs. Yvonne Youmans Penfield, known by all as “Chumpy”, age 73, of Walterboro, entered into rest Friday morning, September 26, 2025, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Born May 28, 1952, in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Robert William Youmans and the late Dorothy Kinard Youmans. Chumpy was a well-known and much beloved employee of Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro where she retired after thirty-seven years of faithful service. During her tenure at Colleton Medical Center, she served as the Materials Manager, Director of Safe Kids, Community Outreach Coordinator, and the H2U Director. She was a member of Bedon Baptist Church in Walterboro, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks – Walterboro Lodge No. 1988, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Chumpy was always present and always willing to make something better. She enjoyed and faithfully attended footballs games that her sons and grandsons were participating in and played an integral role in the fundraising for the new bleachers that were installed at the Walterboro Football Stadium on Black Street.
Surviving are: her husband, Mr. Ryan Larry Penfield, Sr.; two children, Larry Penfield (Joni) of Walterboro and Les Penfield (Amy) of Blythewood, a brother, Joey Youmans (Terri) of Walterboro; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Penfield (Betty) of Wedgefield; and four grandchildren, Ryan A. Penfield (Lacy), Reese Penfield (Canyon), Landon Penfield, and Cooper Penfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be directed in her memory to: Bedon Baptist Church, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:30pm Sunday afternoon, September 28, 2025, from Bedon Baptist Church, Walterboro. The Reverend Ricky Crosby officiated. Interment followed in the churchyard.
