WALTERBORO: Lorene Crosby Padgett passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning March 8, 2023 at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville. She was the widow of Carol Padgett and was 83.

Mrs. Padgett was born June 1, 1939 to the late Riddick A. Crosby and the late Georgia Mae Crosby in the Bedon Community of Colleton County, where she was raised. After retiring from the Walterboro Dress Plant, she went to work at Asten- Hill, and remained there until the plant closed. Some years later, she came out of retirement to work at Academy Road Country Care, where she cooked and prepared lunch for many children whom she grew to love. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church.

She is survived by her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Amy Nettles, and Dylan Nettles and his wife Destiny. She leaves behind her siblings Betty Jackson (Lugoff), Mary Julia Warren and Paul Crosby, and by her caregiver and niece Angie Hiott. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews whom she loved. She was preceded in death by her daughter Renae Nettles and brothers Legare Crosby and Carl Crosby.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Friday evening, March 10, 2023 from 5:00 until 7:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro. Graveside services will be held Saturday morning, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 at the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
