Denver, NC - Ann Cummings Padgett, the matriarch of her family and a true southern belle, passed away peacefully with family and wonderful health aides. She was 92 years old.

Ann was active in the business she owned with her husband of 63 years, Padgett Fertilizer Company, her church, community, and the lives of all her family.

Ann was born in her family home in Ruffin, South Carolina where she was the only girl of 4 children born to Maline and Frank Cummings. Ann taught swimming for many years at the Ruffin pool and attended and graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in education. Ann taught elementary school until she began a family of her own.

Ann began dating the love of her life, Robert “Bobby” Padgett, a Navy Veteran and son of Lillie and Cecil Padgett.  Ann and Bobby married in 1952.

Through their business they serviced numerous plantations throughout the South with their agricultural needs. Ann and Bobby made their home in Walterboro, South Carolina but especially enjoyed the memories made in their second home in Charleston, South Carolina.

Ann was also involved in her church and community. She had a strong faith and she believed in the power of prayer and was continually praying for those who were in need and for her family’s wellbeing. She was an active member of Denver United Methodist Church where she attended service and was a member of the church’s various committees and Bible studies. Through her service she made many lasting friendships and was particularly fond of her CLEO and Prayer Groups.

Family was the center of Ann’s life. She was always behind the scenes supporting her husband, Bobby, in his work and endeavors. As a mother, she always supported her 3 daughters, Gloria Jenkins, Maline Stross, and Bobbilu Walden (Paul) in their education and life decisions. She was so proud of each child for their achievements, their spouses whom she loved as her own children, and for giving her the special gifts of 7 grandchildren and their 5 spouses and 12 great-grandchildren.

Nothing made her happier than having all of her family together creating lasting family bonds.

Ann was the matriarch of her family, a strong role model, and someone everyone loved and cherished. She will be forever remembered, always loved, and will eternally hold a special place in the hearts of her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Denver United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Autrey and grandson, Pastor Tyler Walden officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 – 1:45 in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Denver United Methodist Church (PO Box 661, Denver, NC 28037) or Carolina Caring (3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658).
