Ozone opens with a win, but loses next two in District 8 Tournament

The Colleton County Dixie Youth Ozone All-Stars went 1-2 before being eliminated in the District 8 Tournament, held June 10-13 at Burton Wells Park in Beaufort.

The Colleton County Ozone defeated Beaufort All-Stars 9-3 in the opening game, but would fall to the Hilton Head All-Stars (13-3) in game two and be eliminated by Bluffton (7-3) on Sunday afternoon.

In the opening win over the Beaufort All-Stars, Nick Martin earned the start and pitched four and one-third innings striking out five. Lucas Pellum entered in relief and struck out three. Sam Witkin, Martin, Pellum, Tucker, Banks Hogan, Owen Olimpo, Conner DeSaussure, and Everette Temple scored for Colleton County.

Game two was delayed until Sunday due to inclement weather. In game two against Hilton Head, Lucas Pellum hit a two-run homerun with Nick Martin on base to take an early lead. Hilton Head came out swinging in the bottom of the first and jumped ahead 4-2.

They would add six runs in the second and three runs in the third to put the game out of reach for Colleton County. Pellum took the loss for the Ozone.

Playing in game three against the Bluffton All-Stars, Martin earned the start and held Bluffton scoreless through three innings. Martin allowed one run in the fourth before he would run out of available innings. Pellum entered in relief and allowed six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Pellum once again blasted a two-run homer with Martin on base in the first inning.

Pellum would score again in the fourth inning.

The roster for the 2022 Ozone All-Starts included Nick Martin, Banks Hogan, Conner DeSaussure, Alex Fargnoli, Ziair Holmes, Austin Murdaugh, Owen Olimpo, Lucas Pellum, Everette Temple, Hunter Tucker, William Williams, and Sam Witkin. They were coached by Scott Babb, Spencer Witkin, and Scott Pellum.
