Mrs. Orene Jones Hudson, wife of the late William A. “Billy” Hudson Sr., passed away at her home Thursday evening, September 2, 2021 under hospice care, with her family by her side. She was 83.
Mrs. Hudson was born in Colleton County May 27, 1938, one of nine daughters of the late Leon Jones and Lottie Humphries Jones. She was a graduate of Walterboro High School, and for thirty-three years worked for Farmers and Merchants Bank, retiring as the Assistant Vice-President. For twenty years she was also the owner and operator of Hudson Insurance Agency and Walterboro Mortgage Company. Mrs. Hudson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, and one of her favorite pastimes was line dancing with her friends in the group "Lowcountry Skootin' Boots", often performing at local nursing homes and the Veterans Victory House. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children William A. “Bobo” Hudson II (Linda), and Cynthia Lynette Hudson Pierce (Jerry Byrd) of Walterboro. She has five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her sisters: Irene Carroll, Suzanne Keller, Carolyn Thompson, Loretta “Rhette” Atkinson, Gloria Copeland, and Kate Jerkins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved grandson William Tyler Hudson, and by her sisters Mae Rushton and Isolene Carter.
Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Parkinson’s Foundation, or to the Greenville Memorial Children’s Hospital. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
