An Ohio man was killed in a two-vehicle, high-speed crash at the intersection of ACE Basin Parkway (U.S. Hwy. 17) and Hope Plantation Lane in the Jacksonboro community on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 5:23 a.m.

The man’s 2014 Ford Econoline van was traveling northbound on ACE Basin Parkway at a high rate of speed when it collided with a stopped semi-truck that was turning into a gas station.

The van received heavy damage in the collision and the driver was trapped in the wreckage. The semi-truck also received substantial damage to the trailer.

The truck driver sustained multiple non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighter-paramedics determined the driver of the van was deceased.

The Walterboro semi-truck’s driver was transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 6 to Colleton Medical Center.

Fire-Rescue crews used rescue tools to free the driver. A hydraulic spreader and cutter were used to remove the driver’s door and a telescoping ram was used to displace the dash.

ACE Basin Parkway was down to one lane for several hours causing traffic to back up in both directions. Once the victim was freed and law enforcement completed its investigation, a second lane was opened around 7:30 a.m. The accident was cleared about three hours and 30 minutes after it occurred.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control.
