She never let the parade pass her by, and on July 18, 2022 she jumped right in and joined the one passing into Heaven.  Just shy of her 89th birthday, Nora Hartman Odum, native of Charleston, South Carolina, but a life long resident of Walterboro, enjoyed life to the fullest.  She once stated that she and her oldest son could have a fun time just walking to the mailbox.  She considered herself a social butterfly and exuded beauty with always being fashionably attired as she flitted about!  That was her trademark, demonstrating what a true southern diva should look like.  If Nora ever had anything, it was a smile she shared freely and a laugh that rang true!

But Nora Lee wasn’t all social fluff! She enjoyed 14 grandchildren that loved being around their Nono, as she simply brought the party.  She loved sharing her home, the farm, with them!  She was involved for years in her community church, Doctor’s Creek Baptist.  Cooking for Vacation Bible School was her annual challenge as she prepared the meal for 30 plus children daily! She took pride and pleasure in this endeavor.  Additionally, she enjoyed baking pound cakes, and passing them around at Christmas to her favorite merchants, bank tellers, hairdressers, etc.  She owned and ran Walterboro’s fabric store, Family Fabrics, during the 1970’s presenting annual fashion shows at Dogwood Hills Country Club, and assisted her husband and sons’ in running the family automobile dealership, Big O Chevrolet.

Following her husband’s death, she moved to Aiken, SC to be near her daughter where she became a busy, willing, and fun loving neighbor in Laurel Oaks subdivision.  There resided a cluster of women who quickly became friends and weekly played cards, hosted drop in parties, and gathered together for great movies and fun.  Here, she simply enjoyed what she did best, socializing with fabulous friends, enjoying the gift of happiness and life!  She later followed her daughter Robin to Augusta, where she spent her final years enjoying community living in assisted living facilities.  She won the Ms. Camellia Walk Senior Beauty Pageant in recent years.

Nora was born in 1933 to Walter “lee” and Edna Hartman.  She attended River’s High School and married Roger Clark Odum upon graduation.  She is preceded in death by her parent’s, her late husband, two sons, Michael Roger Odum and Mark Hartman Odum, and her grandsons Michael Tanner Odum and Cash Robinson Odum.  She is survived by her son Tim Odum of Walterboro and his wife, Robin, along with grandson’s and their spouses:  Clark & Meredith Odum, Tyler & Rachael Odum, and Chase & Brianna Odum, all of Walterboro, along with 7 great grands.  Her daughter Robin Odum Shea and husband Michael reside in Augusta, Georgia.  Nora is also survived by Robin’s children Matthew & Spouse, Shannon and daughter Ashley Thompson ad spouse, Micah, and Nora’s 5 great grands.  Nora’s daughter-in-law, Tami Odum, widow of Mark, resides in Walterboro, along with 4 of their children and spouses, Roger & Regina Odum, Austin & Jenny Odum, Savannah & Jared Griffith, and Mikael & Matt Murdock.  Lee Odum Fisk, also Mark’s daughter, lives on Johns Island.  Nora has 5 great grands from her son Mark.  Beverly Odum, Michael’s widow resides in Anderson with her sons and Spouses:  Jacob & Alex Odum and Kyle & Lyn Odum , along with 5 great grands.  Additionally , she is survived by her niece of Summerville, Cindy Bowers Hopkins.  The family wants to give special recognition and thanks to Ms. Tracie Curry of North Augusta ,SC for being a true and loving caretaker and companion of Ms. Nora for the past several years.
