Apex Mattress Manufacturing, Inc. is building a new site in Walterboro.

The $1.9-million investment will bring about 50 jobs to the area and will be built at 304 Thunderbolt Drive in Walterboro.

The company’s president, Jack Hung, said he chose South Carolina because it was the “best climate” for a new business, as quoted in area media outlets. He also added that Colleton County was chosen because its proximity to both the Charleston and Savannah ports.

The newly-established company does mattress manufacturing for e-commerce and for retail stores. The new site in Walterboro is expected to be open and underway by January of 2022.

“This is another win for Colleton County! We are excited that APEX Mattress Manufacturing, Inc. has decided to locate in Walterboro and look forward to forming a partnership with their management team to ensure that they have what is needed to be successful,” said Colleton County Council Chair Steve Murdaugh in a quote to Charleston-area news outlets and to local media sources.

“I am excited to see the finished product they are manufacturing. Thank you for bringing jobs to our region,” he said.

S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster also issued a press release last week on the new industry’s choice to come to South Carolina. “South Carolina continues to drive in economic growth across our state and specifically in our rural communities,” he said, in that press release.
