Colleton Prep standout Walker Nettles has decided to take his talents to Erskine College, signing a football grant-in-aid with the Flying Fleet from Due West, S.C.

Nettles, whose parents are Lonnie and Mandi Walker, of Walterboro, has been a three year varsity letter winner and starting offensive tackle for the War Hawks. In addition to playing football, Walker has been a member of the War Hawk basketball team for two years.

During his football career, he was named All-Region twice, and All-State his senior year, highlighted by being named to the North/South All-Star game.

Nettles decided on Erskine for several reasons.

“I really like the small-town atmosphere, and the school is close enough so my family will be able to come watch me play. I felt at home during my visit and the coaches were easy to get along with; it just felt like home,” Nettles said. “They also have an excellent pre-med program with a 100% placement into medical school. This is important as I plan to major in sports medicine.”

War Hawk head football coach Greg Langdale acknowledged Walker’s contribution to the War Hawk program.

“Just really excited for him and to see him rewarded for all the years of hard work” Langdale said. “He has been an outstanding student –athlete here at CPA. Really, I am just super proud of him and his accomplishment.”

His mother also is proud of her son, saying she was grateful and blessed to see all those years of hard work finally is paying off.

“I am really looking forward to seeing him play in the future,” she said. “We are just super proud of him.”
