Mrs. Mildred Spell Nettles, 90, of Smoaks, entered into rest Thursday morning, March 6, 2025, at Magnolia’s of Walterboro.   She was the loving wife of the late Mr. Donald M. Nettles. Born July 23, 1934, in Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late John Frederick Spell and the late Hazel Wilson Spell.   She was a longtime employee of Enterprise Bank of South Carolina where she retired after many years of service as a vault teller.  A lifelong member of Green Pond United Methodist Church, where she was active in countless areas of the church’s work.   She for many years served the congregation as their Pianist, was a Sunday School Treasurer and was also a teacher for the children and adult classes and served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee where she was the committee’s Treasurer.    She was formerly a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and will always be remembered for her love of gardening.  Mildred loved growing roses and to her, keeping her yards well-groomed and in immaculate condition were of utmost importance.  She served as the Treasurer of the Hucks-Liston-Spell Cemetery and was a trustee of the Spell Cemetery – both of which were a testament to the dedication she had to family heritage.  Surviving are: four children, Deanna Wilson Brewton (Bob), Jackie Nettles Horseman, Deborah Elizabeth “Betty” Nettles, and Susan Davis Zeigler (David); two sisters, Vernell Fulton and Becky Ward; four grandchildren, Swinton W. Hudson, III (Ivelisse), Stephen Donald Hudson (Melanie), Jessica Paige Zeigler Potts (Daniel), and Megan Elizabeth Zeigler Hughes (Dalton); and seven great grandchildren, Carmen, James, William, Parker, Preston, Peyton, and Avery; as well as a special cousin, Pat Spell Johnson.  She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Michael Nettles; a brother, Robert Spell, Sr.; two sisters, Barbara Babb and Sarah Spell; and a sister-in-law, Eliette Spell.  Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, March 8, 2025, from Green Pond United Methodist Church, Smoaks.   Interment followed in Spell Cemetery.  Arrangements by: The Brice W.
