PROUD OF SALK. USC Salk alum Josh Smoak is now a junior grade lieutenant Naval aviator and helicopter pilot. He finished his associate degree at USC Salkehatchie before completing a bachelor of science in applied math from USC Columbia in 2015. Josh is stationed in Norfolk, Va., and he just got a new personalized Virginia car tag (below) with the USC block C, as well as the date he received his gold wings — his two proudest accomplishments. Josh is the son of Sheila and JD Smoak of Ruffin and the brother of Salk alum Holly McCrary, who teaches biology at Wade Hampton High.
