National Aide-de-Camp for the Dept. of South Carolina Named

David Lies of Colleton County Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 12102 was appointed a National Aide-de-Camp for the Department of South Carolina. Mr. Lies is the Quartermaster and Adjutant for Post 12102. He has served as Quartermaster since 2018 and Adjutant since 2019. He also serves as newsletter editor for the post and District 1.

As National Aide-de-Camp Mr. Lies will work with the posts and districts in South Carolina as directed by the Department Commander in obtaining and maintaining membership. Last year, Post 12102 was number 1 in membership, District 1 (the Lowcountry) was also number 1 in membership and the state was number 2 in the nation. Mr. Lies joined Post 12102 as a Life Member in 2016. As a member of the post, he has served as Judge Advocate, Trustee and Council Representative to the Colleton County Veterans Council.

Mr. Lies joined the US Navy in 1981, and went to Boot Camp in San Diego, then MM A school in Great Lakes, IL, and Nuclear Power School in Orlando, FL, and continued his training at NPTU Windsor Locks, CT. After his training at NPTU he was selected to be an instructor.

Mr. Lies then went to sea aboard the USS Sea Devil, SSN 664 where he earned the Navy Expeditionary Medal. He was also on the decommissioning crew of the USS Sam Rayburn, SSBN 635.

The Rayburn was converted to MTS-635, where Mr. Lies was an instructor.  He then transferred to the USS Batfish, SSN 681 where he received the Southwest Asia Service Medal. He was discharged in 1994. After the Navy he went to work for HydroAire in Chicago and still works as Technical Field Advisor at power plants around the nation.

He is married to Beate Lies, who is President of the VFW Auxiliary to Post 12102. They have two sons and a dog and live in Walterboro.
