Mrs. Nancy Godley Peeler, 68, of Islandton, entered into rest Thursday morning, August 5, 2021, at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. She was the wife of thirty years to the late Mr. Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Peeler.

Born October 24, 1952 in Hampton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Edward Kenneth Godley and the late Helena Kinard Godley.   She worked a long and dedicated career with the United States Social Security Administration retiring following a thirty-five-year career.  She eventually returned to that same job as in instructor to other agents and also served in a traveling position.   She was a lifelong member of Adnah United Methodist Church in Islandton where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and had severed in many aspects of the church’s work.      Nancy had a large and loving heart.  She was endeared to those who knew and loved her.  She centered her life around her family, supporting each of them in their walks of life. She loved horses and took pride in attending horse competitions with her daughter and granddaughter.  She wore the title of “Matriarch” well in her family.  She loved the outdoors and being on the family farm, fishing, or at her home on Edisto Beach was her life.  She will always be remembered as a strong independent woman who possessed a sharp and quick wit. 

Surviving are: her son, Jason Wesley Peeler and his companion, Megan Roberts of Islandton; a daughter, Emily Peeler Welch and her husband Bradley of Islandton; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Hadwin, Harper Lee Welch, Stough Allen Welch, and Olivia Grace Peeler; and a great grandchild, Brexley Peeler. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Gloria Godley; a nephew, Jeff Godley and his wife Stacey and their children, Kenneth and Kennedy; a niece, Donna Coxwell and her husband Michael and their children, Courtney, Carolina, and Catherine; and a dear friend and companion, Alvin Hiers of Ehrhardt.

Funeral services were held 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, August 8, 2021, from Adnah United Methodist Church, Adnah Church Road, Islandton. The Reverend Jim Hensley officiated.   Interment followed in the churchyard.
