Michael Dean Marchand

James A. Dyal Funeral Home

Having shown his remarkable courage in facing life's challenges with a smile, Michael Dean Marchand passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021, at the age of 50, surrounded by family and friends at Trident Medical Hospital.

He was a welcome surprise to parents James and Sandra Fisk Marchand on March 4, 1971. Michael earned a SC Residential Builder Commission License several years after an incapacitating motorcycle accident. He actively participated in designing his handicap accessible house. A former commercial construction supervisor, motorcycle enthusiast, and RC model plane flyer, Mike brought an infectious enthusiasm to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He met the love of his life, Kimberly, when they were children in Summerville. His dogged persistence paid off when they married 12 years later. Over their 30 years together, they shared their home with many four-legged, furry friends, including present day "bad boys" Koda and Ritter.

Mike loved life, and despite his battles with serious medical issues, he was a hero in the eyes of many. Surviving is his wife, Kimberly Dawn (Richardson) Marchand, his sister, Michelle Schmitt; (Mark Schmitt); and nephews, Matthew and Aaron. Lighting up his life were several "adopted kids": Krista Rose Elam, Dustin Reynolds, Harrison and Mackenzie Hunt. Michael was a beloved second son to Barbara Richardson, his "Uber MIL driver." Michael was preceded in death by his parents.
