The Memorial Day Ceremony sponsored by the Colleton County Veterans Council, was held May 26, 2025, in Walterboro. Nathaniel Knox, Co-Chairman of the Colleton County Veterans Council was the Master of Ceremony substituting for Bob Tiegs who acts as Treasurer for the Council. The invocation and benediction were given by Reverend Andrew Cooper, Pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. The Presentation of Colors and Retrieval of Colors was executed by the Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary Ace Basin Composite Squadron. Mr. Jeremiyah Karal sang the National Anthem. Mayor Bill Young and County Council Chairperson Scott Biering welcomed those who attended. Mr. Knox acknowledged dignitaries present and POW/MIAs and introduced the keynote speaker, Gene Eaton, USMC (Retired), State Captain of the SC Patriot Riders. Mr. D’Andre Hicks performed “America the Beautiful” for the audience. The Colleton County Veterans Council laid the Memorial Wreath in honor of those who died in armed service for their country in “A Call for All to Remember.” A three round volley and Taps were performed by the Colleton County Honor Guard. “As we honor our fallen heroes, let us also commit to supporting those who continue to fight for freedom and justice around the world. This is the true spirit of Memorial Day, and the best way to honor the legacy of those who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice.”
