Mary Waite Hamrick McLeod, 80, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at the Medical University of South Carolina on February 19, 2021 after a short illness with cancer. Born March 22, 1940, in Gaffney, SC, she was a daughter of the late Waite Carlisle Hamrick Sr. and Mary Strahley Hamrick. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Peden Brown McLeod, four children: Mary Carlisle McLeod (Donald) Benson of Columbia, SC; Peden Brown McLeod Jr. (Jolee) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Rhoda Lane McLeod (Jim) Perry of Hendersonville, NC; John Reaves McLeod of Columbia, SC; and 10 grandchildren: Strahley and Carlisle Benson; Peden and Bartlett McLeod; Young, Hamrick, McCollough, Eliza, and Alden Perry; and Mollie McLeod, and her sister, Florence Hamrick Reaves of Gaffney, SC. She was predeceased by her brothers, Waite Hamrick, John Hamrick, and Charles Hamrick all of Gaffney, SC.She was a graduate of Southern Seminary, Mount Vernon College, and Converse College. She was a member of and attended Bethel United Methodist Church. A family service will be held Tuesday afternoon, February 23, 2021 at 3:00 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, with burial following in the Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the committal, while observing social distancing, at the cemetery. Although the church service is for family, it will be live streamed of the church Facebook page. Parker Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is assisting the Family.
