Mrs. Mary Ellen Smoak, wife of the late Thomas W. Smoak, died Saturday morning, September 18, 2021 at the Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum after an extended illness.  She was 86. 

Mrs. Smoak was born in Macon, Georgia September 23, 1934, a daughter of the late Albert and Mollie Joyce Sellers Blan. A devout Christian, she spent her life as a homemaker, selflessly and lovingly caring for her husband and children.  She was an excellent cook, and was a talented seamstress.  

She is survived by her children:  William M. “Bill” Smoak, Curtis A. “Tony” Smoak (Annie), Joyce Smoak Rohde (Richard), Thomas Brian Smoak (Leigh) and John David Smoak (Jan).  There are twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, September 21, 2021 at 11:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 that morning in the chapel.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
