A Lowcountry man was shot to death early Saturday morning in the parking lot of a local motel.
Antonio Clinton, 32, of North Charleston, died from injuries he sustained in the shooting, according to Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey. An autopsy on Clinton was scheduled for Tuesday; however, the autopsy results would have been available after this newspaper’s deadline.
According to information provided by Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy, the county’s emergency 911-dispatch center received several reports of shots being fired in the parking lot of The Palms Inn and Suites, located at 1145 Sniders Highway in Walterboro. These 911-calls came in at about 1:46 a.m. Officers and firefighters-paramedics who responded to the scene found the victim unconscious and not breathing, said McRoy.
“Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man’s injuries and started resuscitative measures at the scene,” said McRoy. The man was transported to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro; however, he did not survive his injuries.
The Walterboro Police Department is investigating this shooting.
As of press deadline this week, there are no arrests in this case and the investigation remains ongoing.
