Man shot at family picnic, shooting suspect sought

A family gathering at a Walterboro house ended with a man being shot.

Detectives with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to a house at about 2:30 p.m. on Little Elbow Drive in Walterboro on Oct. 1st to a reported shooting.

An adult man was shot in the ankle and in the foot. According to Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy, the man was at a Saturday afternoon gathering when the shooting occurred.

McRoy said authorities with the sheriff’s office responded to the scene, and were “searching for suspects.”

No one else was injured. The shooting victim was transported to the trauma center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

Authorities with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating. As of press deadline, there was no suspect information from the sheriff’s office. It is also unclear what caused the shooting.

This case is being investigated as an attempted murder.
