A Walterboro man who was out on bond for committing another murder has been arrested and charged with an April 24th nightclub murder.

Keyrone Lemon, 23, is charged with murder, attempted murder, and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. As of press deadline, he was being held at the Colleton County Detention Center in Walterboro.

Lemon’s latest charge comes from an April 24th shooting that occurred at the VIP Ultra Lounge Nightclub in Walterboro at about 2:30 a.m. That shooting left one man dead and several others critically injured.

The shooting victim is Hakeem Rutledge, 24. Rutledge died at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston from injuries sustained in the Colleton shooting, according to Richard Harvey, Colleton County coroner.

Deputies from the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene at the nightclub and determined that at least three people were shot. All three men were transported to local trauma centers for medical treatment. One man died. Two others are in critical but stable condition.

A fourth person was also injured in the scene when he was struck by vehicles whose drivers were fleeing the scene. This person declined medical treatment, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy.

At the time of the April 24th murder, Lemon was out on bond for his involvement in an unrelated murder that occurred in June of 2019.

According to Colleton County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Shalane Lowes, this investigation remains open and active. If anyone has additional information on this crime, you are asked to call the sheriff’s office at 843-549-2211.
