An adult man received possible life-threatening injuries in a single-car wreck in the 300 block of Mount Carmel Road on Thursday Dec. 3 at 7:50 a.m.
The northbound Ford Fusion crossed to the southbound shoulder and overturned, trapping the male passenger. Bystanders reported the man was unconscious following the accident.
Firefighter-paramedics removed the windshield, entered the car and began treating the man inside the vehicle, while other crew members stabilized the car. They then used rescue tools to remove a portion of the roof to free the man.
He was transported by ambulance to the CARE Flight helicopter at Colleton Medical Center, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital in North Charleston.
The adult female driver was transported to Colleton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Colleton County Sheriff’s deputies rerouted traffic between Bells Highway and Quail Drive for 45 minutes until the accident was cleared.
