An adult male suffered multi-traumatic injuries after being involved in a single-vehicle wreck on Jefferies Highway (U.S. Hwy. 15) at Barwick Lane on Sunday evening May 24.

The pickup truck was traveling south on Jefferies Highway when it attempted to pass several other southbound vehicles, including a Dorchester County EMS Ambulance transporting a patient to Colleton Medical Center.

The vehicle lost control and flipped over several times before coming to rest on the right shoulder at Barwick Lane. The man was initially trapped in the truck.

Paramedics on the Dorchester ambulance stopped and provided immediate care to the injured man and notified 9-1-1 of the accident. The Dorchester County paramedics were able to extricate the man from the truck using hand tools.

Colleton Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later and continued care to the individual before immobilizing him and transporting him by ambulance to Colleton Medical Center.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

One lane of Jefferies Hwy was blocked for 1-1/2 hours until the vehicle could be removed and debris cleared from the highway.
