Man hurt in Black Street wreck

A Summerville man was injured after his Jeep struck a utility trailer and overturned in the 800 block of Black Street Friday May 15 at 11:18 a.m.

Units arrived to find the car lying on its passenger side in the roadway. The adult male driver was trapped in the wreckage.

Firefighter-paramedics began treating the man still in the vehicle, while other crewmembers worked to remove the roof. Cribbing and struts were used to stabilize the car, and hydraulic rescue tools and a reciprocating saw were used to remove a portion of the roof to gain access to the driver.

Firefighter-paramedics immobilized the man in the driver’s seat, then removed him from the car. He was transported in stable condition to Colleton Medical Center.

He was wearing a seatbelt.

The Walterboro Police Department is investigating the crash. The Walterboro Fire Department assisted at the scene.
