A Myrtle Beach man was seriously injured on Saturday night when his car crashed into a patch of woods along a rural Colleton road.

The man’s vehicle was discovered when a female motorist driving onto the McLeod Road ramp near Interstate 95 noticed headlights in the woods. She stopped and found the man lying outside of the vehicle, nearly unconscious. She called 911.

The woman stayed with the man until firefighter-paramedics arrived on scene.

According to Barry McRoy, director of Colleton County Fire-Rescue, the man’s vehicle was traveling northbound on the exit ramp when the man did not his car at McLeod Road, sending the car through the intersection and crashing into the woods.

“At some point, the man managed to crawl out of the car until he was found,” said McRoy.

The man was flown to Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating.
