One died and one was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash about 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of Ruffin and Jones Swamp road Sunday August 9.
Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to the scene of the accident to find Jorge Fuentes, 38, of Islandton had been killed and a Smoaks man was injured in the front yard of a residence in the 600 block of Ruffin Road.
Fuentes was in a 2004 Chevrolet SUV traveling north on Jones Swamp Road and failed to yield the right-of-way to a 2012 Honda Accord. The SUV over-turned and firefighter-paramedics found the driver trapped. He was not wearing a seatbelt and had been partially ejected from the vehicle.
Crews requested one additional ambulance and a rescue unit for the survivor who was transported to Colleton Medical Center.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
